Meet Deepti — Owner & Instructor of Kumon McKinney Southwest and Highland Village
Both of our tutoring centers — in McKinney, TX and Highland Village, TX — are independently owned and personally led by Deepti, a dedicated educator who believes every child can excel in math and reading when learning is individualized, consistent, and built on mastery.
Why Deepti Opened These Centers
Deepti’s path to Kumon began the way it does for many instructors: as a parent who saw the method work. Watching children transform from hesitant, help-dependent students into confident self-learners — through nothing more mysterious than the right level, the right increments, and daily practice — convinced her that this was the model of education she wanted to bring to her own community.
Today she owns and operates two centers serving North Texas families: the Kumon Math & Reading Center of McKinney Southwest and the Kumon Math & Reading Center of Highland Village. As a certified Kumon instructor, she has completed Kumon’s rigorous instructor training and development program, and she personally oversees the learning plan of every enrolled student — reviewing worksheets, adjusting levels, and meeting with parents about progress.
Her teaching philosophy is simple to state and demanding to practice: meet every child exactly where they are, and never let a day of practice be wasted on material that is too easy or too hard. That is why both centers begin every enrollment with a careful placement assessment, and why advancement is always earned through demonstrated mastery — never granted by the calendar.

About the Kumon Method
Developed in 1954 by Japanese math teacher Toru Kumon for his own son, the Kumon Method is now the world’s largest after-school math and reading program — built on three deceptively simple principles.
Practice Daily, Briefly
Students complete short worksheet sets every day — about 15–30 minutes per subject — plus up to two weekly center visits. Daily repetition turns effortful skills into automatic ones, which is what fluency means.
Advance Through Mastery
Progress is earned by accuracy and speed, not the calendar. Each concept is mastered before the next begins, so the staircase from counting to calculus — and phonics to critical reading — never has a missing step.
Self-Learning: The Skill Behind the Skills
Kumon worksheets are designed so students figure out new concepts largely on their own, through worked examples and tiny incremental steps. Instructors guide and observe rather than lecture. The result is a child who has experienced “I figured it out myself” hundreds of times — and who approaches every future textbook, test, and challenge with that same self-reliance. Rooted in the Community
Our centers are neighborhood businesses, not distant franchises. Students come from campuses like Slaughter Elementary, Walker Middle School, and McKinney Boyd High School on the McKinney side, and Highland Village Elementary, Briarhill Middle School, Flower Mound High School, and Marcus High School on the Highland Village side — among many other public, private, and homeschool families — and Deepti and her team know the rhythms of those school calendars, from STAAR season to summer break.
We believe strong readers and confident problem-solvers strengthen the whole community — so we support local school events, celebrate our students’ milestones publicly at the center, and keep enrollment guidance honest: if Kumon is not the right fit for your child’s situation, we will tell you.
